Turn on Nightly Backups
What this is
Nightly Backups is an optional add-on for Linux and Windows VPS, $5/month, that backs up your whole VPS each night. This page covers adding it, confirming it's active, and removing it. Add it from Extra Features in Manage VPS (https://vpsdime.com/myservices).
- On a Premium VPS it's already included, so there's nothing to turn on.
- A Windows VPS adds it the same way, from the Extra Features tab. Restores are handled by our team rather than the self-service Backups page (a Windows VPS doesn't appear there), see the overview.
Turn it on
- Go to My Services and open the VPS you want to back up. This opens its Service Management page.
- Open the Extra Features tab.
- Find the Nightly Backups row. The Price column shows $5.00 USD for your billing cycle, and Due Now shows the prorated amount for the rest of your current term.
- Click Buy Now. We create an invoice for the Due Now amount.
- Click Pay Invoice and pay it. (If you change your mind before paying, click Cancel.)
- After payment, the row shows "Please wait while we process the order" while we set it up. Once it's active, your first backup runs that night.

Check that it's on
- On the VPS's Information tab, the Backups line shows ENABLED.
- After the first nightly run, the VPS appears on the Backups page with its backups listed. See Viewing your backups.
Cost and billing
- Nightly Backups is $5.00/month, shown for your billing cycle. If you pay quarterly or annually, the price reflects that term.
- Due Now is prorated, so you only pay for the days left in your current term. After that, the add-on is included on your service's regular renewal invoice.
- For help paying, see Viewing and paying an invoice.
Turn it off
- Open the VPS's Extra Features tab.
- In the Nightly Backups row, click Remove.
Before you remove it:
- No refund or credit. As noted in the Downgrade Policy message on that tab, we don't refund or credit removed features.
- Backups stop. We stop taking new nightly backups. Don't count on your stored backups remaining available after removal, so download anything you might need first. See Recover individual files or Download a full disk image.
Troubleshooting
- The button says "Remove," not "Buy Now." Nightly Backups is already on for that VPS. Remove turns it off.
- I paid but don't see any backups yet. Backups run once a night, so the first one appears after the next nightly run. Check the VPS's Information tab for the Backups: ENABLED badge to confirm it's active.
- I'm on a Premium VPS and don't see the option. Premium VPS already includes Nightly Backups, so there's nothing to add. Go straight to the Backups page.
- I have a Windows VPS. Add it from Extra Features like any other VPS. Restores are handled by our team, so open a ticket when you need one.
Still need help?
You can open a support ticket. So we can help on the first reply, it's worth mentioning:
- the VPS hostname or IP,
- whether you're trying to add or remove Nightly Backups,
- any invoice number involved, or the error you saw.
