Software and server management
What this is
The honest answer to "can you install / configure / migrate / manage ____ for me?", and what your options are instead.
What we don't do
The service is self-managed, so we don't offer:
- Software installation, setting up your web server, control panel, app, or stack for you
- Done-for-you migrations, moving your sites and data from another host
- Ongoing server administration, maintenance, updates, or monitoring of your software
This is part of how the pricing works: you get generous resources at a low price, and the server work is yours.
What we offer instead
- Direction. Ask, and we'll point you at the right approach or tutorial, and answer questions along the way. See what support covers.
- One-click Applications. Common stacks deploy ready-made from the panel (Coolify, Immich, Traccar, Code Server, and more), which covers a lot of "can you install X" cases with zero setup.
- Self-service reinstall. A clean OS or application is always one reinstall away if you want to start over.
Doing it yourself
Most server tasks are a well-documented tutorial away, modern Linux distributions are extensively documented, and running your own server is very learnable. Start with a current LTS release, follow a reputable guide, and ask us if you get stuck on something specific.
AI chatbots are a genuinely good server helper. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and the like are very capable at exactly this kind of work: paste the exact error message, or describe what you want to set up, and they'll walk you through it step by step and patiently answer every follow-up. It's like having a sysadmin on call for free. Just sanity-check any destructive command (anything that deletes, formats, or overwrites) before you run it.
A step further, AI agent tools (Claude Code and the like) run on your own machine and can operate the server over SSH with you approving each step, they don't just tell you the commands, they run them and read the results. Powerful for multi-step work like migrations or debugging, with the same rule applied more strictly: review everything before approving it, especially anything that deletes or overwrites, and keep backups current before letting any tool loose on a server that matters. The full setup and the safety rules are in Using Claude Code on your VPS, safely.
One etiquette note for when self-help ends in a ticket anyway: write the ticket in your own words with the real errors, and don't paste the chatbot's output into it, here's why that slows your fix.
Hiring help
If you'd rather not do the server work, hiring a freelance system administrator is inexpensive and effective, one-off tasks (an installation, a migration, a tune-up) are typically cheap hourly work, and ongoing part-time management is easy to find on freelance marketplaces. That gets you real hands-on management, which a low-cost self-managed VPS deliberately doesn't include.
Still need help?
You can open a support ticket. So we can help on the first reply, it's worth mentioning:
- what you'd like installed, moved, or managed,
- whether you want direction to do it yourself, or a pointer for getting it done for you.
